Japanese rice cookers, explained from Japan

Short answerFor most homes, a 5.5-cup Zojirushi or Tiger is the right Japanese rice cooker. Pick Micom if you cook white rice a few times a week, induction heating (IH) if rice is a daily staple, and pressure IH only if you want the best brown rice.

QUICK CHECK

What size rice cooker do you need?

A Japanese rice cup is 180 mL. A US measuring cup is 240 mL, so 1 US cup of rice is about 1.33 rice cups. The leftover multiplier is our own rule of thumb.
