Best Japanese Rice Cookers: Zojirushi and Tiger Models Ranked by Who They Suit
Updated October 25, 2026 · Kitchen from Japan editors
Short answerThe Zojirushi NP-HCC10 is the best Japanese rice cooker for most homes. It gives you induction heating in the standard 5.5-cup size without the cost of pressure, and it handles both short-grain and jasmine rice.
01How we ranked them
We started from what changes the result in the bowl: how the pot is heated, how much it holds, and which settings it has. All numbers on this page come from the Zojirushi and Tiger product pages, and each product page lists the date we checked them.
Micom cookers heat the rice from the bottom. Induction heating (IH) heats the pot itself, which spreads heat through the rice. Pressure IH adds pressure on top of that. In general, each step up costs more and draws more power.

Official electrical ratings. IH and pressure IH models draw roughly twice as much as Micom models.
Buy the 5.5-cup size unless you live alone (3 cups) or regularly cook for five or more (10 cups). A 5.5-cup cooker still makes a small batch, but a 3-cup cooker cannot make a large one.
Check the size calculator at the top of the size guide if you are converting from US measuring cups.
How we researched this We compiled the specs from official maker pages and Japanese-language manuals and spec sheets (checked 2026-10-25). We have not bought or tested every product ourselves. Makers update their listings, so please confirm on the official page before you buy.
