IH vs Micom Rice Cooker: Is Induction Heating Worth the Extra Cost?
Updated October 25, 2026 · Kitchen from Japan editors
Short answerInduction heating is worth it if you cook rice most days or cook brown rice often. If you cook white rice a few times a week, a Micom cooker gives you most of the benefit for less money and about half the power draw.
01How the heating differs
Tiger explains that Micom cookers heat the rice from the bottom, like basic electric cookers, but add a computer that controls soaking and timing. IH cookers use a coil to heat the pot itself, so the warmth spreads through all of the rice.
Zojirushi's NP-HCC10 adds heaters in the side and lid as well (a triple heater). That is the main reason IH cookers are better at large batches and at grains that need long, even heat, such as brown rice.
02Power draw
The IH models on this site are rated from 1,080 W to 1,240 W. The 5.5-cup Micom models are rated 610 to 680 W. If you plug the cooker into a circuit shared with a kettle or microwave, that difference matters.

03Keep warm
Tiger lists up to 12 hours of keep warm for its Micom models and up to 24 hours for its IH model JKT-D10U. If you cook once in the morning and eat from the pot at night, IH has a real advantage.
