Zojirushi vs Tiger Rice Cookers: The Real Differences, Model by Model

Short answerChoose Zojirushi if you want the most rice settings and texture control, and Tiger if you want to cook a main dish at the same time. At the same heating type, the two brands are much closer than online arguments suggest.

01Same heating type, similar results

Both brands sell Micom models (heated from the bottom) and induction heating models (the pot itself is heated). The heating type matters more than the logo. A Tiger IH cooker and a Zojirushi IH cooker have more in common than a Zojirushi IH and a Zojirushi Micom.

So the first decision is Micom or IH. Our IH vs Micom guide covers that. Then pick the brand by the features below.

02Where Zojirushi is stronger

Zojirushi gives you more control over texture. The NS-ZCC10 and NP-HCC10 let you choose softer or harder white rice, and the NW-JEC10 has five white-rice textures. Zojirushi also has more small 3-cup models and more American-style settings such as steel cut oatmeal and quinoa.

03Where Tiger is stronger

Tiger's tacook plate sits above the rice and cooks a main dish at the same time. Tiger describes it as cooking rice and a main dish together without the flavors mixing. If you want dinner from one appliance, no Zojirushi model on this site does that.

Tiger also lists weights on its spec pages, and its IH model JKT-D10U keeps rice warm for up to 24 hours according to Tiger, versus up to 12 hours on its Micom models.
